Mark Cueto: Confident Sale's new signings will make an positive impact

Sky Bet

Mark Cueto believes Sale's new signings will ensure the club aren't involved in another relegation scrap next season.

The Sharks have brought in Cardiff back-row Michael Paterson and London Welsh quartet Jonathan Mills, Tom Arscott, Phil MacKenzie and Kiril Kulemin, which will help temper the loss of Lions second row Richie Gray to Castres.

Although the new arrivals may not be household names, former England wing Cueto is confident they will make a positive impact.

"Without naming names, over the years when we have signed big names, they haven't always particularly gone that well for us."

The 33-year-old told the Manchester Evening News: "The signings we have made may not be the big household names like we had last summer but all the guys who have come in are massively respected in the game.

"Sale are one of those teams. You think back to those years we were successful and names we had like Juan Lobbe and Sebastian Chabal were superstars. But back when they first joined us at Sale they were pretty much unheralded.

"They came to the club relatively unknown but on the back of doing well for Sale they got picked at international level and the rest is history.

"Without naming names, over the years when we have signed big names, they haven't always particularly gone that well for us.

"The Michael Patersons and the Jonathan Mills and the Tom Arscotts are all good Premiership guys.

"They may not be massive names but they work hard and, in Jonathan and Tom's cases, have been in similar positions with London Welsh and they don't want to be there again.

"Hopefully, that side of it can be an advantage for us and I think we will only benefit from having them on board."
