Steven Finn: Took two important wickets on day one

England bowler Steven Finn believes England's late fight-back on day one of the first Ashes Test puts the home side in an advantageous position.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, the home side struggled at Trent Bridge as Peter Siddle took 5-50 to dismiss them for 215.

However, Finn and James Anderson took two wickets each to leave the tourists 75-4 at the close of play.

Finn told Sky Sports: "We would definitely have liked to get more runs on the board, especially after winning the toss, but that fight back in the end leaves us in a strong position.

"We learnt from our experiences on the first day of the last Ashes (when Siddle took six wickets - including a hat-trick - as England were bowled out for 260).

"It wasn't quite that frenetic but we lost wickets at important times and we knew we had to come out this evening and put in a strong performance."

Anderson was in typically fine form, taking the key wicket of Australia captain Michael Clarke with a superb swinging delivery as he passed Fred Trueman's Test wicket tally of 307.

"Jimmy has been a magician for a long time now and it is a testimony to how hard he works and the hours he puts in to developing those skills," said Finn.

"He is a great man to have in the dressing room to learn off and an even better man to have at mid-off."
