Surrey claimed their second Friends Life t20 South Group win of the season by beating Kent by 31 runs at Canterbury.

Azhar Mahmood and Jade Dernbach once again led the way with ball to restrict Kent to 145-9 in reply to the visitors' 176-3, which was based around 95 not out from Steven Davies.

Kent seemed well on course at halfway with Sam Northeast (61) and Darren Stevens (30) rattling along in a third-wicket stand that brought 55 from seven overs.

But when Stevens was lbw to Jon Lewis the innings fell away with seven wickets falling for the addition of just 46 runs.

Mahmood (2-22) struck the hammer blow by bowling Northeast and also had Sam Billings caught early on, while Dernbach added 3-22 and Zander de Bruyn 2-24.

Davies had carried his bat for Surrey, sharing in stands of 66 with Jason Roy (16), 47 with Ricky Ponting and 57 with Glenn Maxwell.

Ponting made 19 from 17 balls before skying a big hit off Matt Coles (2-20), who proved the pick of the attack.

Maxwell injected some urgency when he arrived in the 14th over with a straight four and a pull for six off England spinner James Tredwell.

He perished in the final over having made 32 off 18 balls before Mahmood swung the only ball he faced from Mitchell Claydon for six over long-on, and their combined efforts proved more than enough.
