Sean O'Brien said the British and Irish Lions were determined to prove a point against the Rebels.

The Lions were defeated by the Brumbies in their previous midweek outing and atoned for that loss with a 35-0 success at AAMI Park.

"We were pretty annoyed after last Tuesday against the Brumbies and were determined to put things right with a good performance," said O'Brien, who marked an impressive display with the tourists' third try.

"The main thing was to go out and work hard for each other, and not try and make it an individual thing. If the team plays well, then individuals can."

The second row pairing of Richie Gray and Ian Evans also impressed, and the former was delighted with how the Lions' pack fared.

"There was a bigger emphasis on our performance, certainly from our pack, and I felt we tightened up there," he said.

"This is largely the group that played last Tuesday and we were pretty upset with ourselves. We wanted to come out and prove a point, and keep the momentum going."

With Paul O'Connell ruled out of the remainder of the tour with a broken arm, Gray and Evans were determined to lay down a marker for a place in the squad for Saturday's second Test against the Wallabies.

Gray said: "Paulie was very unfortunate to get injured as he's been huge for us, but that opens up an opportunity for myself and Ian.

"Ian played very well tonight, I thought his lineout work was exceptional."
