Sunderland have signed forward David Moberg Karlsson from Gothenburg subject to a medical, Sky sources understand.

The 19-year-old, who began his career with IFK Mariestad, scored just twice in eight starts last season.

But Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio appears to have marked him out as one for the future, with Karlsson expected to improve his game in the development squad.

The fee is undestood to be in the region of £1.5m, although that has not been confirmed.
