Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini would be interested in becoming a national team boss before next summer's World Cup.

The ex-Italy international is out of work and considering his options having been sacked by City after losing the FA Cup final to Wigan Athletic.

Mancini has claimed to have received a few offers but one of his dream jobs would be to take charge of an international team ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He told Sky Sport Italy: "I want to go back on the bench, maybe even with a national team towards the 2014 World Cup.

"I have already had some contacts. The important thing is that it is something exciting."

City appointed Manuel Pellegrini as Mancini's successor on Friday and the club will now be looking towards their transfer plans.

Napoli's Edinson Cavani continues to be linked with City and Mancini has confirmed the Uruguayan was a target during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

Mancini said: "I spoke often about him with the leaders because he could interest us a lot. Now I do not know if the club is still interested in him."
