Cian Healy: Has now been ruled out the rest of the Lions tour

British and Irish Lions prop Cian Healy was brought crashing back down to earth on Friday when his tour was brought to a premature end just hours after he was cleared by a disciplinary hearing.

Healy had earlier spoken of his delight at proving his innocence after being cited for biting Western Force scrum-half Brett Sheehan.

However the Irishman will now return home after a scan on the ankle he injured during the first half of the 69-17 victory in Perth revealed he had suffered ligament damage.

Head coach Warren Gatland confirmed that Healy would be returning home on Sunday, and that Scotland's Ryan Grant has been called up to the squad.

Gatland said: "Firstly, our thoughts are with Cian. It has been a day of mixed emotions for him after being quite rightly being cleared of foul play but then the scan revealing the extent of the damage to his ankle.

"He has made a big contribution on and off the field in the last two weeks and we wish him well in his recovery.

"Given Cian's injury we have decided to bring Ryan in. He has played well in the RaboDirect PRO12 this season and for Scotland in the RBS Six Nations and we look forward to him and Alex Corbisiero arriving on Saturday."

Corbisiero is already en route to team up with the Lions after he was called up from the England squad in Argentina to provide cover for Healy, while Grant will now fly in from Durban.

Speaking to scottishrugby.org Grant said: "This time last year I got my first cap. Now I'm heading out to Australia to represent Scotland for the Lions.

"What can you say? It's been so fast I've not really had time to process it.

"It's the top of the game. To call myself a Lion is the greatest honour."
