JP Duminy: Seven-month spell on the sidelines

Fit-again South Africa batsman JP Duminy blazed a rapid century as South Africa beat the Netherlands by 84 runs in a One Day International in Amstelveen.

Duminy cracked 150 not out, his highest score in a one-day international, to make light of his seven-month spell on the sidelines.

With the Champions Trophy looming, it was more than encouraging for the Proteas to see Duminy in bludgeoning form, hitting eight sixes and five fours in a 119-ball stay.

South Africa began slowly, losing Hashim Amla and Alviro Petersen cheaply, but with Duminy dominant and Colin Ingram and Faf du Plessis weighing in with half-centuries, they amassed 341-3.

Duminy had been out of action due to an ankle injury suffered against Australia last November but hardly looked as though he had been away.

Chance

With a number of players rested, Ingram seized his chance to impress by making a patient 82, while Du Plessis played an attacking innings to finish 62 not out from 43 balls, clearing the ropes five times.

The hosts gave a reasonable account of themselves in their reply, most notably their South Africa-born opening batsman Eric Szwarczynski.

He reached 98 before being run out in desperate circumstances when bowler Farhaan Behardien deflected a firm shot from Mudassar Bukhari into the stumps at the non-striker's end.

They finished on 257-9, having never been on target but still giving South Africa's attack a thorough work-out.

After Szwarczynski, Peter Borren was Holland's highest scorer with 48 at number six, with Robin Peterson taking 4-67 from nine overs.
