Super League match preview: Wakefield Wildcats v Wigan Warriors

Wakefield Wildcats host league leaders Wigan Warriors, who boast an impressive 11-match winning streak at Belle Vue on Sunday.

The hosts have won only two of their last five outings leaving them struggling in 10th place in the Super League table.

Wildcats head coach Richard Agar welcomes the news of Danny Kirmond's recovery following fears a fractured cheekbone could rule him out.

However, injuries sustained by Tim Smith, Ali Lauitiiti and Paul Aiton have forced changes in the Wakefield 19-man squad.

The absence of the trio paves the way for Frankie Mariano, Vince Mellars and Lucas Walshaw to be included in Agar's squad while Paul Sykes remains unavailable with a knee injury.

Leaders

Table-toppers Wigan will be without captain Sean O'Loughlin and hooker Michael McIlorum, who both sustained knee injuries during the Magic Weekend at the Etihad Stadium.

Warriors head coach Shaun Wane has opted for youngsters Greg Burke and Scott Taylor as cover for the injured duo as the Cheery and Whites seek a 12th successive victory.

Wigan star Sam Tomkins has scored in the last 11 games for the Warriors and will move above Martin Offiah in the club records should he touch down again on Sunday, but Wane insists there is still more to come from the 24-year-old full-back.

"There are certain technical areas where he can get better but what I love about Sam [Tomkins] is he is a winner and he competes for everything, that is more important to me, he is mentally tough," he said.

Wigan have won the last five meetings between the duo with the most recent being a 44-24 victory at the DW Stadium in April.
