Sale Sharks have signed London Welsh captain Jonathan Mills.

The forward, who can operate at lock or in the back row, was unable to prevent the Exiles finishing bottom of this season's Premiership table.

But his performances, most notably a try-scoring display in a 29-19 victory at Sale in September, impressed Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond.

Diamond said: "Jonathan is an inspirational player who leads by example. He is a very tough player and is only 28 years old.

"His displays in the Premiership last season were outstanding including a great performance against us last September. I am sure he will be a big asset to us."

Mills, who previously played for Scarlets and Bath, scored 12 tries in 169 appearances for London Welsh.

He will join a number of new recruits, including former Exiles team-mate Phil Mackenzie, at Sale next season.
