England's Brian Davis claimed one of the eight spots available for this year's Open Championship in the American leg of International Final Qualifying in Texas on Monday.

The 38-year-old finished on five-under 135 with rounds of 66 and 69 in very windy conditions at the par-70 Gleneagles Country Club Queens Course in Plano to secure a share of fourth place.

American Josh Teater, 34, led the way on seven under following rounds of 64 and 69 which earned him a place in his first major.

His compatriot Johnson Wagner and Colombia's Camilo Villegas will also be in action at Muirfield on July 18-21 after sharing second place on six under, while American Scott Brown finished alongside Davis on five under.

There was a four-man play-off for the final three spots between Americans Bud Cauley, Luke Guthrie, Colombia's Andres Echavarria and Sweden's Robert Karlsson, who all finished at 136.

Echavarria was eliminated with a bogey four on the first play-off hole while the others made par.

Among those who missed out were former Masters champion Trevor Immelman and former Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III, whose run of 26 straight Open Championship appearances is now in danger.

"There are still some chances for me to get in the Open," Love said. "I want that streak to continue. I want to keep playing."
