Wales international George North insists the British and Irish Lions are targeting success in this summer's tour of Australia.

Warren Gatland's men have three mouth-watering matches against Australia on the horizon, but first up is a warm-up against the Barbarians in Hong Kong on June 1.

The last time the Lions toured Australia they suffered a 2-1 series defeat in 2001 while they have also lost their subsequent tours of New Zealand and South Africa in 2005 and 2009 respectively.

However, while North and his team-mates are working hard in training the 21-year-old insists it is also it is vital the team bond and try to enjoy themselves where possible.

"We want to go down there as part of a successful tour and a winning tour," he told Sky Sports. "As somebody said to us earlier we want that winning mentality. It starts from day one which it has.

"Along the way we must have fun along the way so it's been good having a laugh with the boys in camp. We've been working hard, but also enjoying the time while we're here."

Club duty

The bulk of the training squad is currently made up of Welsh players with many England and Irish players still on club duty and North is keen for the remaining stars to join Gatland's squad.

"There's obviously so many Welsh boys around it's difficult isn't it because you always go to what you know," he said.

"The boys that are in camp, there's a couple of Irish and English, they are all good guys. It's been good.

"At the moment we haven't done too much, it's a case of train, train and train, but from what I gather there's stuff coming up."
