Former Sevens international Rhys Patchell has been added to the Wales training squad ahead of next month's tour to Japan.

The exciting Cardiff Blues fly-half team up with the Six Nations champions on Monday with Dragons hooker Sam Parry.

Patchell comes in for Rhys Priestland after the Scarlets No 10 was ruled out of the two-Test tour with an Achilles tendon injury.

Patchell, who was on the fringes of the squad during the Six Nations, has scored 147 points in 22 appearances for the Blues.

Parry has been called in as precaution after Ken Owens suffered a knock in the Scarlets' RaboDirect PRO12 semi-final defeat to Ulster.

Owens will be monitored by the Wales medical staff alongside team-mates Scott Williams and Liam Williams.
