Ron Rolston has been named as the new Buffalo Sabres coach after ending the season in interim charge.

Rolston had been on the Sabres bench since Lindy Ruff was fired in February and he guided them to a 15-11-5 record in their final 31 games.

Prior to joining the Sabres, 46-year-old was the head coach of the team's minor leagur affiliate in Rochester for two seasons and he also spent several years coaching the USA's U18 national team.

The Sabres finished the lockout-shortened season in 12th place in the Eastern Conference but much of the damage was done early in the campaign before Ruff was dismissed.
