Lopeti Timani: Will move to the Rebels at the end of the season

Lopeti Timani has turned down the chance to play in Europe in order to join the Melbourne Rebels.

The 22-year-old back-row will make the switch from the Waratahs - with Timani hoping the move will see him follow his brother Sitaleki into the Australia set-up.

Timani, who initially played rugby league for the Canterbury Bulldogs before joining the Waratahs, has agreed a two-contract with the Rebels - and head coach Damien Hill is delighted with the new acquisition.

"At only 22, Lopeti is a player with enormous potential," Hill told the franchise's official site.

"He has played both No 8 and blindside flanker over the past two seasons, and at such a young age will only continue to develop.

"Lopeti has ambitions to represent the Wallabies, and sees a pathway to this goal through the Rebel Rugby program."
