County cricket: Jim Allenby bowls Glamorgan to emphatic win over Worcestershire

Glamorgan sped to their first victory of the season on the final morning of their LV= County Championship clash with Worcestershire at Cardiff.

All-rounder Jim Allenby was the catalyst for the 10-wicket win, taking three wickets in 12 balls to reduce Worcestershire to just 207 all out after they had begun day four on 186-5.

The tail-end collapse meant Glamorgan required just 36 for victory, a target they reached in nine overs thanks to Ben Wright's unbeaten 29.

Glamorgan picked up 21 points for the win, while Worcestershire make the short trip home with just three.

Australian-born medium-pacer Allenby followed up his top score of 78 in Glamorgan's first innings to claim figures of 4-27 in 20 overs in the Worcestershire second innings.

But it was his compatriot Michael Hogan who made the initial breakthrough, holding a return catch to claim the prized scalp of Sri Lanka star Thilan Samaraweera for 79 in the fifth over of the day.

And in the next over wicketkeeper Michael Johnson was caught by Marcus North off the potent bowling of Allenby.

It left Worcestershire in trouble at 195-7, a lead of only 23 and their plight worsened significantly when Allenby removed David Lucas and Chris Russell in his next over.

Hogan claimed the last wicket to fall by having Gareth Andrew caught by North at mid-off before Wright and Will Bragg (3no) comfortably knocked off the runs.
