St George Illawarra Dragons are remaining tight-lipped on speculation they are closing in on the capture of Castleford Tigers' Rangi Chase.

The Dragons failed in a bid to sign the England international last year but are thought to have made a new offer for the 2011 Man of Steel.

The NRL club appeared to move a step closer to pressing ahead with a deal on Wednesday when stand-off Jamie Soward agreed to join the Penrith Panthers on a four-year deal from next season.

Recruitment

"As has been speculated for some time, we are in a strong position regarding recruitment but we have never been interested in speculating," said chief executive Peter Doust.

"When we have a number of matters finalised, we will communicate appropriately."

Castleford have made a slow start to the 2013 Super League season, although they won their second game on Saturday following a 28-26 success over the Widnes Vikings.
