James Anderson: Ready for another tough Ashes battle this summer

James Anderson insists England will not be taking Australia lightly despite their recent Test struggles, saying they expect the usual tough challenge during the Ashes.

Australia may have lost their last Test series 4-0 in India but Anderson says that, much like a derby game, form is irrelevant when the Ashes urn is up for grabs.

England have won the last two Ashes series and ahead of back-to-back battles against the old enemy Australia have been suffering problems both on and off the field in recent months.

There is no surprise to see England installed as big favourites to retain the Ashes this summer, but seamer Anderson says that the home side are expecting their usual testing encounter with Australia.

"Form kind of goes out of the window a little bit with an Ashes series," Anderson told Sky Sports News at a Slazenger event. "It's always hard fought.

"Australia are always competitive regardless of what form they've been in leading up to an Ashes series, they always fight hard and make it difficult for us.

Respect

"So we need to expect them to be on form, I think the key is to focus on what we do well."

Complacency will not be an issue for England, despite many comments that it crept into Alastair Cook's team during their difficult drawn series in New Zealand last time out.

"Every team we play against we respect them and we'll prepare as well as we always do for any Test series," added Anderson.

"We'll prepare with a lot of detail and hopefully we'll be fighting fit and produce a good Ashes series."

First up this summer for England is the return Test series against New Zealand, and after being on the back foot for most of their winter away trip, Anderson is keen to turn the tables on the Black Caps.

"We've got a big series against New Zealand first, we were a bit disappointed with the series out there so we're looking to beat New Zealand first and foremost."

James Anderson uses the Slazenger V100 TAS Ultimate bat, part of the new 2013 Slazenger cricket range, which is available to buy for £375 from store.slazenger.com
