Guan Tianlang: Tired after a memorable week at Augusta

Guan Tianlang capped a historic week at the Masters with a creditable three-over 75 in the company of 1988 champion Sandy Lyle.

The 14-year-old sensation became the youngest player in Augusta history to make the halfway cut despite being controversially penalised a shot for slow play in the second round.

"It's not easy to play here and make the cut and be the low amateur and I think I did a pretty good job."

Qualifying for the weekend earned him a trip to the Butler Cabin as leading amateur, and he completed 72 holes without a single three-putt or double-bogey.

He bogeyed three of the first six holes in his final round and dropped another shot at 11 before making birdie at the 13th - his first since the 18th hole on Thursday.

The Chinese schoolboy also converted a fine tee-shot to the 16th before giving the shot back at the next as he closed on 12 over par.

Not easy

"It's not easy to play here and make the cut and be the low amateur and I think I did a pretty good job," said Guan holed out to a rousing reception on the 18th green. "The whole week was great for me.

"I'm a little bit tired. Still a lot of things to improve. Short game is good, but could still get better and my driving has to get a little bit longer. Yes, everything needs to improve."

Guan will now attempt to qualify for the US Open and the Open Championship, but he will not be rushing into turning professional.

He added: "I haven't decided yet, but it won't be too early as a lot of things need to improve. Nothing to rush."
