Sri Lanka secured a 17-run win over Bangladesh in the one-off Twenty20 international in Pallekele on Sunday.

Needing to better the home side's 198-5 the visitors ran out of deliveries as they posted 181-7, although it was a gallant run-chase.

Sri Lanka scored an imposing total with opener Kusal Perera top-scoring with 64 runs from just 44 deliveries, an innings that included five fours and four sixes.

Perera hammered a six over deep midwicket off the fifth ball and followed that up with a four through third man off the next ball.

Jeevan Mendis (37), Mathews (30 not out) and Thisara Perera (22 not out) were the other main run-getters.

Run-chase

Mohammad Ashraful did his best to start Bangladesh's run-chase on a positive note with 43 from 27 balls, before he was trapped LBW by Thisara Perera, one of his two wickets while pacemen Angelo Mathews also claimed a brace.

Shamsur Rahman was out for a duck while Jahurul Islam (11) and Nasir Hossain (8) both failed to seriously trouble the scorer.

Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (39) and Mohammad Mahmudullah (31) put up a brave fight, but ultimately they fell just short in their daunting run-chase.
