Cavalryman ran out an impressive winner of the Dubai Gold Cup Sponsored By Al Tayer Motors at Meydan.

Saeed Bin Suroor's seven year old has been a grand servant to connections and gained another high profile success in the hands of Silvestre de Sousa.

Saddler's Rock pulled a little hard for his head early but was soon settled and took the field along at a fairly pedestrian gallop in the two mile Group Three.

Declan McDonogh began to wind the pace up approaching the turn for home but he couldn't shake his rivals off and was soon picked up by Tenenbaum who had raced on his shoulder throughout.

The challengers were queuing up behind with Imperial Monarch edging off the rail to look for running room and Kieren Fallon's Ahzeemah also holding a prominent position.

However, none were able to quicken in the style of Cavalryman in the centre of the track and the son of Halling put the race to bed in a matter of strides to record a most decisive success.

Ahzeemah held on for second with the fast finishing French challenger Verema in third.

De Sousa said: "He's a proper stayer and I knew he would come on from his last race. The horse felt full of confidence and he gave his best tonight. It is really great to have my first World Cup meeting winner in my new job (retained rider to Godolphin)."

Bin Suroor said: "Things didn't work out for him when he went to Australia when he ran in the Melbourne Cup (12th).

"Tonight I thought Kieren Fallon did a great job setting the pace for us and Cavalryman was in the right place to cash in."
