Maria Sharapova cruised into the quarter-finals of the Sony Open after a convincing win over Klara Zakopalova in Miami.

The No 3 seed was simply too strong for her Czech rival as she rattled off a 6-2 6-2 victory.

Jelena Jankovic was also a straight-sets winner, with the 22nd seed brushing aside Sorana Cirstea 6-0 6-4.

However Sara Errani, Roberta Vinci and Kirsten Flipkens all recovered from slow starts to reach the last eight.

Errani, the No 8 seed from Italy, recovered to beat Ana Ivanovic 1-6 6-4 6-2, while compatriot Vinci, ranked No 15, dug in to overcome Alize Cornet 2-6 6-4 6-4. No 30 seed Flipkens eventually broke Ajla Tomljanovic 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 6-3.
