Monty Panesar: Spinner awarded England increment contract

Monty Panesar has been awarded an England increment contract for 2012-13.

The Sussex left-arm spinner qualified for the deal after replacing Graeme Swann in the team for the first Test against New Zealand in Dunedin, following his three Test appearances against India during the current contractual period.

Non-contracted players can earn an England increment contract via a points system.

Five points are awarded for a Test appearance and two for a T20 or ODI appearance, with an increment contract being awarded automatically once the player reaches 20 points during the 12-month contract period.

ECB national selector Geoff Miller said: "This award reflects the contribution Monty has made to the Test team during the winter and I would like to congratulate him on his achievements."

Panesar had been on a central contract but that was not renewed in 2009.
