Former Great Britain boss Brian Noble is in contention to be the new Salford coach, according to owner Dr Marwan Koukash.

Ex-Bradford and Wigan coach Noble, 51, has been without a club job since leaving Crusaders in 2010.

Koukash also revealed that former Wigan centre Tony Iro, who is working for New Zealand in the build-up to this year's World Cup, is also a contender to succeed Phil Veivers at the City Reds.

"It's a big decision appointing a new head coach," Koukash told the Manchester Evening News. "I have to get it right and I will be going for someone who shares my vision for this club.

"We cannot afford to wait as a club to be successful - things have to happen now.

"We do not even have a shortlist as yet but Brian Noble will be considered for it along with Tony Iro.

"Alan Hunte will take charge of the team for the time being and I will be interested to see how things go for him. He, too, could become a strong contender."

Head of youth Alan Hunte is in temporary charge of the Salford first team following the sacking of Veivers just five games into the current Super League season.

The Reds, who were taken over by Koukash in January, have won only one of those games and conceded 196 points.
