New Zealand seamer Doug Bracewell is facing a late fitness test after suffering a mystery foot injury at home over the weekend.

Bracewell was forced to sit out Monday's practice session after cutting himself - with some unofficial reports claiming he suffered the injury cleaning up glass after a house party.

Bracewell will now be put through his paces on Tuesday to prove he will be okay to play on the first Test against England.

New Zealand team manager Mike Sandle said: "I still need to ascertain the circumstances, but I am disappointed to be stood here today in front of you having to talk about it."

At the suggestion it may yet turn out the consumption of alcohol played its part, he added: "If that is involved I would be disappointed."
