Essex have tied Owais Shah and Ryan ten Doeschate to new deals as both prepare to leave for the Indian Premier League.

Dutch all-rounder ten Doeschate is now committed to the Division Two county until the end of 2014 while batsman Shah has signed up for the forthcoming season.

Both have IPL engagements - ten Doeschate with Kolkata Knight Riders and Shah with Rajasthan Royals - but should be back in England by the end of May at the latest.

Head coach Paul Grayson said: "I'm delighted Ryan has committed to the club.

"He has been a brilliant player over the seven or eight years he has been here, and I'm looking forward to him contributing to the team in the next few years.

"Owais has signed for a year as he's a high quality player who will give us great experience when he returns from the IPL tournament."

Ten Doeschate said: "I'm really happy to have signed a new contract. I've always wanted to play cricket at the county and I'm hungry to do well."
