Premier League darts: Phil Taylor beats Simon Whitlock in Bournemouth

Phil Taylor produced yet another Premier League masterclass to beat Simon Whitlock 7-2 on night three of the new season in Bournemouth.

'The Power' averaged 107.33 during a superb performance against the Australian, who himself played pretty well but could just not get a look in against the six-time Premier League champion.

Taylor has dominated meetings with Whitlock and made it 32 wins out of his 38 matches against The Wizard to move onto five points from three games so far this season.

The first three legs of the match went against throw, with Whitlock needing a superb 140 checkout just to get on the board, but from the minute Taylor nailed a 126 outshot for a 3-1 lead he never looked like being pegged back.

"It was a cracker," Taylor told Sky Sports. "Simon was brilliant there believe it or not. The score didn't reflect the game as Simon played superb, I think he's walked off here a happy fella because of his form as well and how he's playing.

"This tournament is not a sprint, you're not going to win it over the first four or five weeks, you've got to play well week in and week out. Some of these lads have to be travelling all through it and some of them will be shattered come the end of it.

"I'm going home to my pipe and slippers and have a good weekend."

Wes Newton got a point on the board at the third attempt but was left kicking himself after letting a 6-3 lead slip away in his 6-6 draw with fellow debutant Robert Thornton.

Newton led 2-0 then wa Shanghai 120, along with other brilliant checkouts of 131 and 111, moved into a 6-3 lead, guaranteeing at least a point.

But with the match on the line Newton missed a dart to clinch it, and Thornton battled back well to remain unbeaten in his first Premier League campaign.

"I'm a bit disappointed being 6-3 up not to get my first win," said Newton. "But Robert's unbeaten and he's hard to beat, I'm still a bit gutted but I'm off and running now and starting to play a bit better."

One man showing no signs of getting any better is Adrian Lewis, who is now dead last in the table without a point to his name after another tame effort during his defeat to James Wade.

Looking lethargic and just not at the races, Jackpot could only average 91 during a 7-4 defeat against Wade, who averaged just over 100.
