Arnaud Mendy: Would be prepared to walk off the pitch in protest

Luton Town midfielder Arnaud Mendy feels players must be prepared to leave the field if they suffer racist abuse.

Mendy is set to face Millwall at Kenilworth Road in an FA Cup tie on Saturday hoping to enjoy an incident-free afternoon.

He is, however, among those to have been left stunned by the recent Sky Sports News 'Special Report' which showed vile chants being aimed in the direction of Leeds United forward El Hadji Diouf during a Championship clash at The Den.

Mendy believes it is time for more players to follow the lead of AC Milan playmaker Kevin-Prince Boateng, who recently walked off the pitch in protest during a friendly encounter, with it important for a united front to be shown.

He said: "It was shocking. I didn't know they could do this anymore.

"I was thinking, 'I hope they're not going to do the same thing to me'. I don't know why they are doing this.

"To stay strong sometimes is hard.

"Sometimes to walk off would be better. It depends what the referee says. They should stop the game."
