Corey Perry: Winning goal for Ducks
Corey Perry scored the decisive goal in the shootout as the Anaheim Ducks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 to come out on top in the battle between the Western Conference's top two teams.
Swedish rookie Viktor Fasth made two saves in the tiebreaker as he won his sixth straight NHL game, after Andrew Cogliano had scored late on in regulation to take the game into overtime.
Nick Leddy and Brandon Saad had put the Blackhawks - who still have not lost in regulation this season - 2-1 up after Ryan Getzlaf opened the scoring for Anaheim.
Jiri Tlusty scored twice as the Carolina Hurricanes beat New Jersey 4-2 to condemn the Devils to their first home defeat in regulation this season.
The game was finely poised at 2-2, with Jussi Jokinen and Patrick Dwyer having scored for Carolina and Ilya Kovalchuk and Ryan Carter for the Devils, before Tlusty's double intervention in the third.
The defeat ended a five-game winning streak for the Eastern Conference-leading Devils.
There was also defeat for the Northeast-leading Boston Bruins, who fell 4-3 to the New York Rangers after a shootout, despite launching a stirring comeback in regulation.
Goals from Carl Hagelin, Derek Stepan and Anton Stralman put the Rangers 3-0 up at the start of the third before David Krejci, Nathan Horton and Brad Marchand brought the Bruins level again.
But they could not complete the turnaround in overtime and Ryan Callahan scored the decisive goal in the shootout.
Craig Anderson stopped 42 shots for the shutout as the Ottawa Senators beat the Buffalo Sabres 2-0.
Erik Karlsson and Erik Condra scored for the Senators in the second period.
Kevin Bieksa and Jannik Hansen scored to help the Vancouver Canucks win their sixth straight by beating the Minnesota Wild 2-1.
Colin Wilson scored the only goal of the game in overtime as the Nashville Predators beat the San Jose Sharks 1-0.
Troy Brouwer tallied in overtime to give the Washington Capitals a 6-5 win over the Florida Panthers and the Dallas Stars extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
The Montreal Canadiens beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 after a shootout and Philadelphia Flyers were 3-2 winners over the Winnipeg Jets.
