World No 2 Judd Trump experienced few problems in easing past Mike Dunn in his qualifying match at the Welsh Open in Newport.

Trump beat his fellow Englishman 4-0 in under an hour to book his spot in the last 32.

He said: "Tonight was a good warm-up. It's a bit different coming in at the last 64 stage and playing an extra game so I wanted to win as comfortably as possible.

"My long potting was good and I feel like I'm cueing well."

Meanwhile, two-time world champion Mark Williams - winner of the title in 1996 and 1999 - overcame Liu Chuang 4-1.

And the Welshman admitted: "That was a lot more like it. It's the first time I have shown signs of being a professional snooker player for a few months.

"It wasn't the Mark Williams of old - he's gone for good - but it's the Mark Williams of a few years ago and I can still give anyone a game."

Elsewhere, on a day without any shocks, John Higgins fired breaks of 120, 99 and 97 as he beat Gareth Allen 4-1.

Higgins said: "Gareth potted some great balls. I didn't realise until before the match that he was still an amateur."

Mark Selby - the UK and Masters champion - out-played veteran Steve Davis 4-0, that included a 144 clearance in the second frame.

Selby admitted: "I seem to do well at this venue so I have good vibes.

"It's an honour to be on the same table as Steve because he is a legend of our sport."

Defending champion Ding Junhui saw off Dechawat Poomjaeng 4-2, while Liang Wenbo, Dominic Dale and Matthew Stevens also progressed through to the next round.
