French number one Marion Bartoli has been ruled out of her country's Fed Cup clash with Germany this weekend.

The 28-year-old was due to represent France for the first time in nine years, but has been struck down by 'flu and was unable to train on either Wednesday or Thursday.

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) have confirmed that Bartoli will be replaced by world number 76 Pauline Parmentier.

Bartoli last played for France in a doubles rubber in the 2004 final against Russia, but subsequently fell out with team officials over her insistence to have her father and coach, Walter, by her side during competition.

That demand went against team rules and, as a result, she was overlooked, but team captain Amelie Mauresmo had persuaded her to return this year without any conditions.
