New Zealand duo Ian Butler and Grant Elliott have been ruled out of Saturday's Twenty20 opener against England due to injury.

Pace bowler Butler suffered an ankle injury in the first New Zealand XI warm-up against England, while all-rounded Elliott has been sidelined with a quad strain.

New Zealand have called up James Neesham for the match at Auckland's Eden Park.

The 22-year-old Otago Volts all-rounder was part of the New Zealand side which claimed an historic ODI series victory in South Africa last month.

Black Caps physiotherapist Paul Close said: "I'm confident that both Ian and Grant will be available for the second Twenty20 match in Hamilton on Tuesday night."
