Super League: Hull receive positive update over Gareth Ellis' foot injury

Gareth Ellis: was forced to withdraw from the Hull side to face Leeds at Headingley on Friday night

Hull have received good news over the fitness of skipper Gareth Ellis, with scans revealing the foot injury he sustained before the game against Leeds is not as serious as first feared.

The England international was forced to miss his new side's Super League fixture against the Rhinos on Friday night after limping out of the warm-up.

The Black and Whites withdrew their captain from the starting line-up shortly before kick-off at Headingley, denying them the services of their big-name winter recruit on opening night.

It was thought that Ellis could have possibly suffered a reoccurrence of the same injury that kept him sidelined for a lengthy period of the NRL season last year when he was playing for Wests Tigers.

However those concerns have now been allayed following a scan, though the player will visit a specialist to find out the full extent of the damage.

"Ellis will visit a specialist early next week before an accurate assessment of the extent of his injury can be confirmed and how long he'll be out of action," Hull said in a statement on their website.

Ellis, who has returned to England for personal reasons after four years plying his trade Down Under, had to watch on as his new employers suffered a 36-6 loss against the reigning champions.
