Paul Lambert: Confident new signings Yacouba Sylla and Simon Dawkins will make an impact at Aston Villa.
Paul Lambert is confident Aston Villa's two January signings can help inspire his beleaguered side up the Premier League table.
Villa completed a deadline-day deal for midfielder Yacouba Sylla of French Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot, before borrowing winger Simon Dawkins from Tottenham.
But though Lambert's dealings have been considerably more modest than those of fellow strugglers QPR and Newcastle, he believes the new duo will provide vital impetus to a team in the drop zone.
"The two of them are ready to go," he said, ahead of Saturday's trip to Everton.
"The lad Sylla will come in and will give us something we don't have with a bit of steel. He'll give us something in the middle of the pitch we haven't got. He will get stuck right in and you need players to do the dirty work.
"Simon can play anywhere. He will surprise people with the way he plays the game. He will create and make things happen.
"He can play anywhere across the middle. He had a spell in America (with San Jose Earthquakes) where he has been incredible. He's been in great form."
Villa have not won in seven Premier League games and despite a fine second half performance that failed to yield reward against Newcastle in midweek, Lambert says he will settle for "playing poorly and winning".
"There is still belief amongst the players," he added. "The players should be upbeat after the second half against Newcastle but in the final analysis we lost the game.
"Winning covers a multitude of sins, it always does, and if you play poor and win, you'd take it.
"We have to drive ourselves out of the position. We have to get out of it and have to fight to get out of it."
