Billy Twelvetrees: Set for England debut on Saturday

Sky Bet

Billy Twelvetrees will make his debut for England in the Six Nations opener against Scotland on Saturday.

The 24-year-old Gloucester centre replaces Manusamoa Tuilagi, who misses the Twickenham clash with an ankle injury.

The only other change from the side that beat New Zealand in December sees prop Joe Marler come in for Alex Corbisiero, who will miss the entire tournament with a knee injury.

Dylan Hartley, Toby Flood and David Strettle are selected on the replacements' bench in place of David Paice, Freddie Burns and Jonathan Joseph respectively.

"There were some very tight calls, with some experienced players coming back into contention, and I am sure the bench will have a significant impact on the game."
Stuart Lancaster

England head coach Stuart Lancaster said: "We are happy to stick with the team that did so well against New Zealand, especially in light of the fact that they have all been in good form for their clubs since then.

Impact

"There were some very tight calls, with some experienced players coming back into contention, and I am sure the bench will have a significant impact on the game.

"We can't wait to get back to Twickenham and hopefully experience the same atmosphere as the autumn when the crowd was superb. It means a lot to the players to have such support in the ground and watching on television."

Twelvetrees joined Gloucester from Leicester ahead of the 2012-13 season and has played 18 times for the west country side this season, scoring two tries.

On his selection, Lancaster added: "This is a great opportunity for Billy. I coached him in the Churchill Cup. It was a winning side, he played number 12 and I could see then he had lots of potential and physicality.

"Moving to Gloucester has been a big help. His confidence has shone through. I have every confidence in him going into the game."

England: Goode, Ashton, Barritt, Twelvetrees, Brown, Farrell, Ben Youngs; Marler, Tom Youngs, Cole, Launchbury, Parling, Wood, Robshaw, Morgan.
Replacements: Hartley, Wilson, Vunipola, Lawes, Haskell, Care, Flood, Strettle.
