Evan Williams: Ruled chaser out for the season

Progressive two mile chaser Williams's Wishes has been ruled out for the season through injury.

Trainer Evan Williams and his team have decided to draw stumps for the current campaign after the smart chaser picked up a hind leg problem that caused him to miss a clash with Sprinter Sacre in the Victor Chandler Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday.

"He's out for the season. He was lame on Saturday and it was getting better every day, but he was on anti-inflammatories since Saturday," said the trainer.

"I went to the races and my assistant James Tudor wasn't happy. The vet was there and we scanned him. He's had a bang behind and we're not happy to carry on.

"We could try to get him back but we're not because we are better off waiting and having another go next year. He's still unexposed. He has had problems behind before but the vets could never put their finger on it. We just gave him time and he came back.

"Just because he has taken another step up I don't want to get him into a big race and then damage him doing it.

"He was probably 70% or 80% better throughout the week but it was probably a result of the anti-inflammatories helped him and the truth of the matter is we've had to make the decision to stop with him and get him ready for next year."

Williams's Wishes, who has won all his last five races over fences, holds entries in the sportingbet.com Queen Mother Champion Chase and the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
