Golden Boy Promotions have signed IBF light-welterweight champion Lamont Peterson to their promotional roster.

In a move that may surprise some, Peterson will join fellow 140-pounders Amir Khan, Victor Ortiz, Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse at Golden Boy.

"We know first-hand what Lamont Peterson can do, as he's been in the ring with our fighters Amir Khan and Victor Ortiz."

Peterson cost his new paymasters a small fortune when he tested positive for synthetic testosterone in the lead-up to his re-match with Khan last year.

The fight was subsequently called off, leaving the promoters out of pocket and Khan unable to challenge for the IBF and WBA titles he lost to Peterson the previous December.

The WBA relieved Peterson of the title, handing it back to Khan ahead of his crushing defeat to Garcia, but the IBF stood by the fighter, whose claim the pellets he had injected into his hip were not performance-enhancing was backed by the sanctioning body.

Peterson will make his first defence of the belt next month against Kendall Holt, whose promoter Gary Shaw won the purse bid prior to Golden Boy's involvement.

"We are thrilled that Lamont Peterson will be joining Golden Boy Promotions' team," said president of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya.

"We know first-hand what Lamont Peterson can do, as he's been in the ring with our fighters Amir Khan and Victor Ortiz.

"We know that he is the kind of individual that will be an asset to our team and great competitor in the 140-pound weight class."
