Dumbarton moved out of the First Division's bottom two as they notched their third straight victory with a 3-1 home win over Hamilton.

The Sons made a decent start with Accies keeper Kevin Cuthbert tipping over a header from Jim Lister.

Home defender Andy Graham was then involved at both ends of the pitch as his well-timed challenge foiled Stevie May before he headed wide from a corner from sub Mark Lamont, who had replaced Gary Fleming early on.

Mark Gilhaney fired into the side-netting and Scott Agnew was denied by a last-gasp block before the hosts broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, Chris Turner heading home from Lamont's cross.

Dumbarton missed a golden chance to double their lead after the break when Alan Lithgow somehow failed to tap in Gilhaney's wayward shot at the far post.

But Gilhaney was on target on 56 minutes to make it 2-1 with a composed finish from the edge of the area.

Hamilton pulled a goal back on the hour when May fired home from keeper Jamie Ewings' poor clearance and the visitors then pushed hard for an equaliser.

However Dumbarton made sure of the points in the final minute when Gilhaney rounded Cuthbert and his centre went in off Hamilton defender Jonathan Page.
