The Melbourne Rebels have signed hooker Tom Sexton from Leinster for the 2014 Super Rugby season.

Melbourne-born Sexton, 23, has spent the majority of his playing career in Ireland with Heineken Cup champions Leinster and captained the Irish Schoolboys team.

He told the Melbourne club's official website: " I am really looking forward to it, I am obviously a little bit nervous about moving to the other side of the world again, but it is definitely very exciting.

"I have kept a close eye on Super Rugby, particularly in Melbourne with Rebels because it was where I was born. With the likes of Wallabies James O'Connor, Kurtley Beale and Nick Phipps now playing for the Rebels, I can't wait to be part of it!"

The hooker will join the Rebels at the completion of this year's Super Rugby competition.
