Toni Minichiello (R): In talks with UK Athletics over a new role
Jessica Ennis' coach Toni Minichiello is holding talks with UK Athletics over a new role after losing his post as Olympic coach.
Minichiello guided Ennis to heptathlon gold at the London Olympics but he will no longer coach her on a full-time basis as a result of the governing body's decision to base their operations around a single High Performance Institute in Loughborough.
Neither Ennis or Minichiello, who was named Coach of the Year in November, are prepared to leave Sheffield and with no another Olympic or world medallists in his training group, he is now in discussions over a new consultancy role to work solely with Ennis.
"My job over the last four years was to coach Jessica Ennis and win global medals and I pretty much think I did that," said Minichiello.
"That role no longer exists in that format so therefore there isn't an employed situation for me.
"My position is always to support Jessica in terms of what's she's doing. I've made a promise to her that I'll continue to support her and I'll try and do that.
"The down side about being a consultant means that I'll have to find other ways of earning a living, which will take me away from the track and from coaching."
