Scotland and Edinburgh centre Nick De Luca is determined to utilise his enforced absence to help improve himself and his club.

The 28-year-old looks set to miss the entire RBS Six Nations campaign after undergoing surgery on a fractured eye socket last week.

But De Luca is putting himself to good use at Edinburgh and is hoping to find the reasons behind their disappointing season.

He said: "I'm keeping myself busy on the analysis side, trying to add something to the club and get them back on track."

Edinburgh are without a point in the Heineken Cup ahead of their final pool game and currently sit in the bottom half of the RaboDirect Pro12 League.

But De Luca believes he can help kick-start a revival, saying: "I'm trying to help with the information flow from the coaches to make us a better team."

Although a comeback looks unlikely, he has not completely ruled himself out of playing for Scotland in this year's Six Nations.

He added "I just want to get as fit as I can, train and play well for Edinburgh, and if there's an opportunity I'll take it."
