John Isner: Has been ruled out out of the Australian Open
John Isner has been forced to pull out of the Australian Open due to a knee injury.
The world No 13 suffered bruising to the bone during the Hopman Cup, leading to his premature exit from the international mixed team competition.
The American had hoped to prove his fitness at the Sydney International but he struggled during his straight-sets loss to Ryan Harrison.
"I have been feeling some discomfort in my knee and have recently learned that I have a bone bruise," Isner said.
"Doctors have told me that continuing to play on the knee could result in a more serious injury."
Isner will now be replaced by a lucky loser in the draw for the Australian Open.
