Tim Paine: backbone of the Hobart Hurricanes victory
Hobart Hurricanes made it four wins out of six in the Big Bash League with victory over the Perth Scorchers.
Chasing 153 for victory, the home side always looked in control after Tim Paine and Ricky Ponting put on 90 for the second wicket after the early loss of Aiden Blizzard for 12.
Ponting eventually perished for 34 - one of Brad Hogg's three victims - and that left the stage for Paine who guided the Hurricanes home with an unbeaten 72.
Paine, now the second highest runscorer in the tournament, hit seven fours and two sixes in his 57-ball knock as the Hurricanes cruised home with nine balls to spare.
Simon Katich was the star of the Scorchers' 152-8 after smashing 66 off 41 balls.
The left-hander, who took advantage of the short boundary at the Bellerive Oval, shared partnerships of 69 with Marcus North (28) and 64 with Adam Voges (35) as he clobbered five fours and four sixes.
Katich's half-century came off just 28 balls, making it the joint fastest 50 in this year's tournament.
He eventually fell victim to Ben Laughlin, the paceman continuing his fine form in this year's Big Bash with figures of 3-19.
The Hurricanes are now tied at the top on eight points with the two Melbourne sides, the Stars and the Renegades, although they've played a game more than their fellow leaders.
The Scorchers are fifth of the eight teams after three wins and three losses.
