Jacob Oram has secured an early release from his central contract with New Zealand Cricket in order to focus on his Twenty20 career.

The 34-year-old all-rounder, who has played 33 Tests and 160 one-day internationals for the Black Caps, will continue to play T20 cricket for domestic side Central Districts and in competitions abroad.

Oram quit Test cricket in 2009 and appeared in just one ODI and a T20I match during the tour of Sri Lanka in October and November.

"This was a very difficult decision but in recent weeks I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer make a full-time commitment to NZC," Oram said in the statement.

"Various factors have led me to make this decision including my age, the stage of my career and the impending birth of my second child.

"I really enjoy the Twenty20 format and see it as a way to stay involved in cricket for a while longer."

Although Oram will no longer be a full-time member of the New Zealand set-up, NZC have not ruled out an international return in the future.
