Hearts defender Danny Grainger has undergone successful knee surgery, according to the Tynecastle club.

The left-back tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the recent Premier League clash with Motherwell at Fir Park.

Grainger went under the knife in Bradford on Thursday and the 25-year-old will now begin his rehabilitation ahead of next season.

"The operation went well," said the former Gretna, Dundee United and St Johnstone player.

"The long journey back to fitness begins now. It's gutting to be out for the season but I'll be working hard to be ready for the new one."
