Somerset batsman Nick Compton has been awarded an England increment contract for the 2012/13 season.

Compton qualifies for the award by virtue of having played four Test matches on England's current tour of India.

Non-contracted players can earn an England increment contract via a points system. Five points are awarded for a Test appearance and two for a T20 or ODI appearance, with an increment contract being awarded automatically once the player reaches 20 points during the 12-month contract period.

ECB national selector Geoff Miller feels the player is worthy of the deal after producing some excellent form.

Miller said: "This award reflects the contribution Nick has made to the England team during the early part of the winter programme and I would like to congratulate him on his achievements since making his international debut last month."
