Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin could be fit to face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday after tests on his knee injury revealed no structural damage.

The rookie was hurt on a hit by Baltimore Ravens tackle Haloti Ngata during the Redskins' 31-28 overtime victory and although he did try to continue in the game, eventually had to be helped from the field.

However it has now been confirmed that the former Baylor University student only suffered a sprain of the lateral collateral ligament, meaning he could suit up to take on the Browns in a crucial game for Washington this weekend.

"He's definitely not ruled out for the Cleveland game," said Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan.

"It's a Grade 1 and he's got some mild swelling. You're hoping with rehab it gets better very quickly - but we don't know for sure.

"We'll have to go day-by-day and evaluate it day-by-day."

Griffin - who was taken by the Redskins with the second overall pick in the draft - has been a huge success in his first year in the NFL, throwing for 18 touchdowns and running for six more.

Washington have won their last four on the spin and with a 7-6 record sit just a game back of the New York Giants in the NFC East.

If Griffin is unable to go in Cleveland, Shanahan will start with another rookie, Kirk Cousins, who rallied the Redskins to victory against the Ravens last Sunday, at quarterback.
