England will fancy their chances of making the cup competition for the first time this season after a favourable draw for the New Zealand Sevens.

England have endured a difficult start to the HSBC Sevens World Series, with a Shield title in Dubai scant consolation from the opening three legs.

And although they will have to take on the hosts New Zealand in Pool A in Wellington, they have also been drawn with the USA and Spain.

New Zealand beat England in the pool stages last time out in South Africa en route to the Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens crown.

Wales, though, have been handed a tougher assignment with South Africa, Dubai champions Samoa and Canada in their pool.

Scotland are in Pool D along with this season's surprise package Portugal, Gold Coast winners Fiji and Australia.

The final pool will see France, who lost to New Zealand in the final in Port Elizabeth, take on Argentina, Kenya and regional qualifiers Tonga.

The NZ Sevens will run on February 1 and 2, with the hosts looking to extend their 14-point lead over France in the Series standings.
