A sensational century from Aaron Finch helped the Melbourne Renegades to an eight-wicket victory in the opening KFC T20 Big Bash match against Melbourne Stars.

Finch plundered 111 not out off of 65 balls - including 12 fours and five sixes - as the Renegades overhauled a target of 168 for victory.

Shane Warne, in particular, suffered as he haemorrhaged 41 runs off just two overs on his return to action.

Finch had shared a 68-run second-wicket stand with Faf du Plessis, who contributed just 14, before the Renegades skipper teamed up with Ben Rohrer to see his side home.

Rohrer added 34 not out off 20 balls in an unbroken partnership of 75.

Jackson Bird (1-29) had Daniel Harris caught by Brad Hodge and James Faulkner removed du Plessis - but that was as good as it got for the Stars.

Earlier 53 from England all-rounder Luke Wright and 42 from David Hussey had helped the Stars to 167-5.

Hodge also weighed in with 28 but Aaron O'Brien (2- 27), Finch (1-14) and Darren Pattinson (1-34) kept the Renegades in the hunt.
