Bath centre Matt Banahan has been given a three-week ban by the Rugby Football Union after his red card against Leicester.

Banahan was dismissed for a dangerous tackle on Leicester centre Anthony Allen during last Saturday's Aviva Premiership clash at Welford Road.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was given a suspension which prevents him from playing again until December 24.

The ban means he will be ruled him out of home and away Amlin Challenge Cup ties against Italian club Calvisano, plus a Premiership appointment with Saracens.

Leicester forward Brett Deacon was given a one-week ban after receiving a red card for striking an opponent in the same contest, a charge he also admitted.

Deacon had already been given an internal suspension by his club but now has been banned by the RFU as well.
